Personal Details: Ernest Briggs was born in 1895 in Yackandandah to Thomas and Annie Maria Briggs. He went to Tawonga School and was a farmer. His weight was 140lbs and he was 5ft 6 inches tall and had a fresh completion, hazel eyes and brown hair. 


Enlistment Details:  He enlisted on the 1st March, 1916.


Details about his role in War: Ernest enlisted on the 1st of March 1916 at the age of 20 years and 5 months. He left Melbourne on the 3rd June 1916 and sailed on the ship “Persic” to Plymouth where he arrived on the 25th of July 1916. He then sailed to France on November 22nd. He fell sick on the 28 of December 1916 with the mumps, then returned to his unit on the 19th January 1917. Between the 6th and 9th of June he and his Battalion fought in the Battle of Messines and on the 4th of October he fought in the Battle of Broodseinde where he was killed in action.
